#StAndrewsChurch is an 18th CE #Baroque #Rococo masterpiece by Italian architect #FrancescoRastrelli. On this steep hill once stood the 13th CE #ChurchoftheExaltationoftheHolyCross, later lost to fire. Tradition says #StAndrew the #Apostle raised a cross here and foretold divine grace. With turquoise domes, gilded iconostasis & 60+ oil paintings, it opened as a #Museum in 1968.

In 2001, #UPA veterans established a memorial to #RomanShukhevych a Ukrainian #MilitaryLeader whose fight for independence ended in 1950, when his house was surrounded by Soviet Forces & he was killed in a firefight. The #OdesaNationalFineArtsMuseum was built by the Polish Diplomat #SewerynPotocki. Construction started in 1805 but stalled during the #NapoleonicWar. Potocki died in 1829 & did not see the #Palace completed - ownership changed hands many times until it was sold to the #OdesaSocietyofFineArts in 1890 & the #Museum opened 9 years later on Nov 6th 1899 #UNESCOWorldHeritageSite

At the heart of the #Holburne #Museum is the collection of Sir #WilliamHolburne 1793-1874, who embarked on a historic #GrandTour of Europe, which sparked a like-long passion for art.
