In 2001, #UPA veterans established a memorial to #RomanShukhevych a Ukrainian #MilitaryLeader whose fight for independence ended in 1950, when his house was surrounded by Soviet Forces & he was killed in a firefight. To honor his heroic last stand & Ukraine’s fight for #Freedom, the #LvivHistoricalMuseum turned the house into a #Museum - hit by a #RussianMilitaryStrike in 2024

The colossal #neoclassical #sculpture of the Roman Goddess #Libertas, holds a torch above her head, and a tablet with the inscription July 4, 1776, the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. A broken shackle and chain lie at her feet, commemorating the abolition of slavery. After its dedication, the #statue became an icon of #freedom, #democracy and of the United States.
