Rebuilt from massive pine logs (early 2000s), #AllSaintsSketeOfSviatohirskLavra was once Ukraine's largest #WoodenChurch self-sufficient with gardens, orchards & ponds within a palisade. Bearing 16th & 17th CE Orthodox traditions, the church was deliberately destroyed by a #RussianMilitaryStrike in June 2022. Today only foundations & remnants remain #UkrainianCutureUnderAttack.
In 2001, #UPA veterans established a memorial to #RomanShukhevych a Ukrainian #MilitaryLeader whose fight for independence ended in 1950, when his house was surrounded by Soviet Forces & he was killed in a firefight. To honor his heroic last stand & Ukraine’s fight for #Freedom, the #LvivHistoricalMuseum turned the house into a #Museum - hit by a #RussianMilitaryStrike in 2024
#Kharkiv’s heart is a vast 12-hectare sq, renamed #FreedomSquare in 1991 when Ukraine gained Independence. Built in 1919 for a #NewPoliticalEra it symbolises Ukrainian national identity & resistance to soviet ideology - protests for sovereignty rallied here. Targeted during the 1st days of the war, its destruction by #RussianMilitaryStrike is symbolic - to shatter its spirit.
Football dreams & Olympic were realised at the #ChernihivStadium, home to the Desna Football Club, until a #RussianMilitaryStrike destroyed the eastern stand in Mar 2022 - days later, the pitch too! Built on the site of a 19th CE city garden, football heroes like #AndriiYarmolenko started their careers here. Now decades of sport ambition are over #UkrainianCultureUnderAttack
The #PolitekhSportsComplex was hit by a #RussianMilitaryStrike on 24 Jun 2022, sparking a fire that damaged 200 sqm. A public facility that hosted PE classes, competitions & national training, its life ended after only 35 yrs of use. It’s enabled people to excel, achieve personal goals, build national pride & memory - now it’s at risk of becoming one #UkranianCultureUnderAttack
