#StAndrewsChurch is an 18th CE #Baroque #Rococo masterpiece by Italian architect #FrancescoRastrelli. On this steep hill once stood the 13th CE #ChurchoftheExaltationoftheHolyCross, later lost to fire. Tradition says #StAndrew the #Apostle raised a cross here and foretold divine grace. With turquoise domes, gilded iconostasis & 60+ oil paintings, it opened as a #Museum in 1968.

1765, the 1st #LyceumTheatre built for Exhibitions of The Society of Artists flopped. Under lease it hosted #MadameTussauds & a #Mozart première. Destroyed by fire, the present #Theatre opened in 1834 to champion English Opera & failed, a lucrative run of melodrama followed.
