For 30+ yrs they were secretly hidden behind false walls, by city architect #VasylBocharov & artist #ValentynKostiantynov, to save them from Soviet authority demolition. Rediscovered in 2008, these 1960s monumental mosaics exist in memory only #AllaHorskaMosaic

Marked a ‘Ukrainian Bourgeois Nationalist’ most of her #Kyiv work is gone. In #Mariupol, leaders hid mosaics #LifeTree & #Kestrel to save them, but the fate of #BannerOfVictory in the East is uncertain #AllaHorskaMosaic #UkrainianArt

Missiles hit the #DonetskAcademicRegionalDramaTheatre in #Mariupol on 16 Mar 2022. Built in a #MonumentalClassicism Architectural style, it opened in 1960 to stage opera & plays. Hit by a deadly #RussianMilitaryStrike when innocent civilians were sheltered inside, up to 600 lives were lost, despite the word “Дети” / “Children” being painted outside #UkrainianCultureUnderAttack
