After the #Blitz of #WW2, demand for #SocialHousing in Europe, for dislocated families was high. #LeCorbusier focused on communal living & his pioneering approach to large-scale housing produced #UniteDHabitation, completed in 1952. #StBridesChurch, a #Baroque#ArchitecturalGem by #ChristopherWren was built in 1672 after the #GreatFireofLondon. Its elegant symmetry & tiered 69m spire is said to be the design inspiration for the wedding cake. Reconstructed after the WW2 #Blitz, the 7th CE crypt evidences Roman, Saxon & #MiddleAges history, reflecting London’s rich cultural heritage & architectural legacy.
Despite its optimistic flair, the #VictoriaPalaceTheatre has seen tough times. It is one of the rare #WestEnd playhouses to survive both World Wars without significant damage, remarkably escaping Luftwaffe WW2 attacks. While much of London was reduced to burning ruins during the #Blitz, the #VictoriaPalaceTheatre stood proud, becoming an inspiring symbol of resilience & hope.
The gates don't open often. But when they do #TheWorldHoldsItsBreath - I never forget who enters. Handcrafted by #BromsgroveGuild, my gates #BeyondtheGold wear gold-tipped spears #LondonGleams. Golden flecks flicker in London’s gloom, but I hold more than the shimmer of light. In 1940, a bomb hit my chapel during the #Blitz. I stayed standing - London needs me too!
