Marylebone Rd. is the 3rd site used by the parish, the 1st #Church was further South, near Oxford St. Demolished in 1400, a new church was erected further north in 1740–42 & converted into a #ChapelOfEase when the present church, by architect #ThomasHardwick, was in construction. The district #Marylebone is named after this ancient parish & church.

#StMaryLeStrand is the 2nd #Church in #StrandAldwych to be called by this name, the 1st situated only metres away. Mentioned in records dated 1222 ‘St Mary & the Innocents’ was destroyed in 1549 to make way for #SomersetHouse, forcing parishioners to #StClementDanes Church a short distance East. The united parish of #StMaryLeStrand with #StClementDanes still stands to this day.

Open to visitors & prayer #StClementDanesChurch was 1st built a 1000 years ago by #WilliamTheConqueror & again in the Middle Ages. Destroyed by the Great Fire of #London in 1666, the #Church standing today was completed in 1682 by #Architect Sir #ChristopherWren. Gutted during the #Blitz of #WW2 it was restored by the #RAF & re-consecrated in 1958. #StrandAldwych
