This #Renaissance #CastleRuin was a stronghold during #Tatar & #Ottoman raids, its 16th CE bastions protected nobles. In 1675, the besieged #Fortress surrendered to the Turks on condition that all would go free. The commander & his sons were impaled - the rest abducted into slavery.

High on #BonaHill with breathtaking views over the city, #KremenetsCastle is an iconic 12th CE #StoneFortress #CastleRuin. In the 1530s the Polish Queen #BonaSforza turned it into a palace, with thick limestone walls, 3 towers & an 80m well. One of the most impregnable strongholds in #Galicia, it resisted #Mongol & #Tatar attacks, but finally fell to #Cossack forces in 1648.
