On the bank of the #RoyalDocks East London #MillenniumMills served as a Flour Mill. Built in 1905, its concrete #ArtDeco facade is an icon of an industrial age. Closed in 1981, its perished shell saw 20th CE progress & was a #FilmLocation in #DerekJarman's #TheLastofEngland. Marked for development into offices & flats, it reflects #LostLondon’s working-class #IndustrialHeritage

The former #DailyExpressBuilding, unveiled in 1932 by press baron #LordBeaverbrook, is a striking #ArtDeco landmark. Here, editor #ArthurChristiansen led the #Newspaper to record circulation & influence. Although the #DailyExpress left #FleetStreet in the 1980s, the building appears in the 1961 film #TheDayTheEarthCaughtFire & is a lasting symbol of Britain’s tabloid press.

One of the smallest, the #DuchessTheatre in the #WestEnd is built with the stalls below street level. Opened in 1929 with #TunnelTrench a play starring #EmlynWilliams, the original interior was #ArtDeco in style; two bas-reliefs in the auditorium flanking the proscenium arch are the only original features to survive. #StrandAldwych #London What’s on: theduchesstheatre.co.uk
