#StrandStories an initiative by #KingsCollege #London has funded the development of a demonstrator prototype that places #Heritage content, researched & curated by KCL students, into the #StrandAldwych area. #StrandStories Fanny & Stella, two Victorian cross-dressers, arrested while in drag outside the #RoyalStrandTheatre in 1870 were charged with conspiracy to commit sodomy, which carried a sentence of life with hard labour. Reported in all major newspapers, Thomas Boulton & Frederick Park were acquitted & went on to have stage careers in the UK & USA. #London #StrandAldwych

#AldwychStation opened #StrandStation in 1907, & closed due to low footfall in 1994. Built on the site of the #RoyalStrandTheatre which stood until 1831, it has been used as a #WW2 bomb shelter & for #Art storage. Now a disused part of the #London #Underground it is a #Film location #TheDarkestHour & subject of many unrealised expansion proposals. #StrandAldwych #StrandStories
