His equations unified light, electricity & magnetism—the groundwork for electronics, wireless communication & optics to evolve. Today, the site fosters that same spirit of cross-disciplinary inquiry #KCLScience

In 1850 #LeonFoucault adapted the experiment #CharlesWheatstone devised to measure the #SpeedofElectricity to determine the #SpeedofLight. Nobody knew - light is just another electromagnetic wave that moves at similar speeds to electricity in a wire. It took another 15 yrs before #JamesClerkMaxwell formed the principles of #Electromagnetism which underpins modern electronics.

#KingsCollegeLondon 1860–65: Professor’s #CharlesWheatstone & #JamesClerkMaxwell were colleagues working on #Electromagnetism in the same Physics Dept. A special time noted for Maxwell’s advances in #Electromagnetism & his #ElectromagneticInduction concept, & the polarisation of light in a magnetic field, a phenomenon discovered by #MichaelFaraday & known as the #FaradayEffect.

#JamesClerkMaxwell was a Professor of Natural #Philosophy at #KingsCollegeLondon in the 1860’s. A Physicist & Mathematician, his equations provide a unified & complete description of electricity, magnetism & light, to form the foundation for modern electrical, electronic, & photonic technologies, central to the development of #QuantumMechanics & #Einstein’s #TheoryofRelativity.
