Inspired by #JamesGibbs personal observations of #RomanArchitecture, Italy & elements of #LondonArchitecture, #StMaryLeStrand was constructed from #PortlandStone & consecrated in 1724 by Bishop #EdmundGibson. The #JewelintheStrand was the 1st church to be built under a Commission for 50 new churches - when only 12 were actually completed - at a cost of £16000. #HiddenHistory
