The #WellingtonMonument is a statue of the #Greek Mythological Hero #Achilles erected in memorial to #ArthurWellesley, the 1st #DukeOfWellington & his victories in the Peninsular War & later stages of the Napoleonic Wars. An equestrian statue of the 1st #DukeOfWellington by #JosephBoehm stands on #HydePark corner, facing #ApsleyHouse which was his #London home. An earlier statue of the Duke stood on #WellingtonArch but it was considered too big & moved to #Aldershot in 1883. Boehm’s depiction of the #IronDuke on a campaign is not to be confused with the #WellingtonMonument 150 metres away.

Built 1830 & moved to its present site in 1883, #WellingtonArch also known as #ConstitutionArch is a Triumphal Arch by #DecimusBurton in #HydePark Corner #London. It originally supported a colossal equestrian statue of the 1st #DukeOfWellington by #MatthewCotesWyatt. The Bronze standing today: Peace Descending on the Quadriga of War by #AdrianJones was mounted in 1912.
